Camping

                School Camp

This term the senior school will be going to camp and having an awesome adventure.  Everyone has been put into groups.  The people in our group will share a cabin and do all the activities together. We will experience new things like rock climbing, abseiling, the mud slide, high ropes course, kayaking and lots more.  We will be leaving for camp next week to have an experience that will blow our minds.  We are feeling excited and a little nervous.  When we come back we get to break the news to people that didn't want to come to camp that we had the best adventure ever!!!

Life Cycle of a Chicken

Lifecycle of a Chicken

There are many varieties of chicken.  A chicken is a type of bird that lays eggs.  The lifecycle of a chicken has 4 main steps.

Rooster and Hen
A rooster is a male chicken and a hen is a female chicken.  The rooster and the hen mate and breed to make chicks.  The hen lays the egg into the nest where she keeps them warm.

Eggs
An egg can be oval shaped.  It is made up of the egg shell, egg white and yolk.  The egg shell is covered in lots of tiny holes that are hard to see.  It protects the baby chick from germs.

Hatching
The hen makes the egg warm by sitting on the egg until it is ready to hatch.  When the chick is ready to hatch the shell will slowly begin to crack until the chick is completely out.

Growing Up
After the eggs hatch the mother hen will have to look after her chicks.  Eventually they will find their own family and the lifecycle will start all over again.

Conclusion
The lifecycle of a chicken is similar to the lifecycle of a frog.  They begin as eggs and then grow.  The lifecycle keeps going and going.

Terrific All Blacks

Rugby World Cup
On the first of November 2015 the final of the rugby world cup was held at the Twickenham Stadium. It was a brilliant game thanks to the All Blacks. They laughed and cheered as joy and tears filled their eyes. As Australia suffered it was a fair loss. Now it's time to say goodbye to the mighty All Blacks who scored all the tries.

Trophy Winners

We are winning I say the trophy is ours,
We can go and celebrate with a happy crowd.
Oh no !!!!!
Its Australia they tried,
However can we see if the mighty All Blacks
Will never die they win and cry.

Becoming a People Saver

Remembering our DRS ABC can save lives!

D - Danger            (Check for things that can harm you)
R - Response         (Squeeze the shoulder and call out 'Can you hear me?')
S - Send for help   (Get help from an adult or by calling 111)
A - Airway            (Make sure the airway is clear)
B - Breathing        (Can you feel breathe on your cheek? Can you see the chest rising up and down?                                    Can you hear them breathing?)
C - Circulation      (Rest, elevate and apply pressure if they are bleeding badly)

First Aid

NZ Red Cross People Saver

On Thursday 29th of October Room 21 learned how to be a people saver by giving basic first aid and assistance to any person suffering a sudden illness or injures affecting their body. There are 6 main steps to follow which are D-danger, R-response, S-send for help, A-airway, B-breathing and C-circulation. The most important one is S-send for help!

We worked in groups and with partners to try it on each person.  It was quite a lot of fun.  As I sat there like a quiet mouse I slightly giggled while my partner was checking me! Later on I got to try it on my partner while my other partner was observing what I was doing.  I was thinking to myself ''What should I do now?"  It takes a little while to get use to remembering what to do.  That's why remembering DRS ABC helps so much.  We practiced opening the airway by tilting the head so the chin is pointing up and using our thumb and pointing finger too.  We had to check our partner was breathing by putting our cheek close to their mouth.  If we could feel them breathing on our cheek and see their chest going up and down we knew they were able to breathe.  Gail showed us how to put someone in the recovery position (side stable position) and then we had a go at doing it too.  Towards the end learnt how to use a cloth to make a sling in case someone injured their arm.  Finally It was nearly time to leave. I was quite proud of all of us working hard so we might be able to help someone else one day.

This is one of the videos we watched about circulation.

Diwali Festival

Diwali

Introduction
On Saturday my dad held a food stall at the Manukau Sports Bowl.  My mum drove us there in or car.  My dad was selling biscuits for $1.99.
His friends set up samples on the front table for people to try.

Food stalls
After 5 minutes I felt hungry so my mum bought dosa to eat. Dosa is a giant traditional Fijian naan bread filled with cheese. I took my dosa over to my dad's stall and my sister and mum went to look at saris .

Performance
There was lots of entertainment on different stages.  At the front of the stage there was a dance competition.  This gigantic break dance group were preforming and they did back flips and the qwan. People were cheering for the dance group and they won!
